Yoplait has rolled out a new line of keto-friendly yogurt called Pro-Yo. The new Greek yogurt product is made with no added sugar and comes in three flavors: strawberry, vanilla and raspberry.
The yogurt has a whopping 20 grams of protein per 5.3-ounce container almost double the amount found in Yoplait's original Greek yogurt as well as calcium and vitamin D.
The company announced the new low-carb offering on Instagram, where fans of the ketogenic diet have been raving about it. One person commented that they had tried all three flavors and "couldn't tell it wasn't bad for you." Another said it felt like cheating on their diet plan because the product was so indulgent.
Though Yoplait's Insta followers are excited about the new low-carb option, those who cannot bear to give up carbs are also happy about its rollout. Another commenter said she was thrilled because she could eat yogurt again without feeling guilty about going over her carb intake limit.
A single serving of Pro-Yo contains just 3 grams of net carbs, making it a solid choice for anyone following a keto diet or who monitors carbohydrate intake closely.

Yogurt is made from milk by adding bacteria to ferment the milk and thicken it. This fermentation process yields yogurt's signature flavor and converts milk's lactose into lactic acid, making yogurt more digestible than milk for people with lactose intolerance.
Yogurt has many health benefits. It's high in protein, calcium, and other nutrients that help you feel full after eating. It may also help improve your digestion and reduce inflammation in your body (1).
However, not all yogurts are created equal. Some contain less protein than others and have added sugar, which can raise blood sugar levels if you have diabetes.

What does this mean for you?
The keto diet is an extremely restrictive, low carb diet. Even the natural sugars in fruit are too high in carbs to be included in the diet. As such, yogurt products that contain lactose, which is a naturally occurring sugar found in milk, are not ideal for keto dieters.
Keto dieters need to consume as few as 20 grams of carbohydrates per day to maintain ketosis. This means most fruits, grains and dairy products are off limits. The majority of the calories you consume on the keto diet should come from healthy fats, like olive oil or coconut oil, and proteins, like meat and eggs.
