Another account credits restaurateur Jean-Paul Roy of Drummondville as having invented poutine when a customer asked him to mix some cheese curds with some fries. Locals often refer to this meal simply as "la poutine".

The traditional annual poutine fest in Drummondville was cancelled after its first edition in 2010 because organizers said they could not find enough judges to participate.
