Carb Balance Tortillas are a great low carb alternative to your favorite Mexican dishes. They're perfect for tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and burritos. And with only 150 calories per tortilla, they make a healthy addition to any meal.

As with all of our products, we use only the finest ingredients. The whole wheat flour in Carb Balance tortillas is milled from whole-grain hard red spring wheat. Unlike white flour, which has had much of the germ and bran removed and is more processed, whole wheat flour retains all of the nutrients of the entire grain kernel including essential vitamins, minerals and fiber.

The result is a hearty-flavored tortilla that's high in protein (7 grams per tortilla) and fiber (5 grams per tortilla), low in fat (3 grams per serving) and a good source of potassium (5% daily value). A normal-sized flour tortilla has 100 calories; Carb Balance Whole Wheat Tortillas have only 60.

Carb Balance Whole Wheat Tortillas

Makes 4 (8-inch) tortillas

Ingredients

1 cup whole wheat flour

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon canola oil

Directions

In a large bowl, stir together the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour and salt. Add oil and stir until it is well distributed throughout the flour. Add 1/3 cup hot water and mix with a wooden spoon until a stiff dough forms. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, until smooth. Cover with a damp cloth and let rest for 30 minutes. Preheat an 8-inch nonstick skillet over medium heat. Divide dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place on the work surface. Roll out each ball into an 8-inch diameter circle about 1/8 inch thick (if you want to make larger tortillas, divide each ball in half before rolling out). Place one at a time in the hot skillet; cook for about 2 minutes per side, until browned. Wrap cooked tortillas in foil to keep warm while cooking the rest of the batch.

Whole Wheat Tortillas are Low-Carb

A standard serving of whole wheat tortillas is about 2 ounces, which is about half of a small 8-inch tortilla. At just 90 calories per serving, it provides 3 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein more than many other types of breads and wraps. One serving also provides 20 percent of your daily recommended amount of iron, which helps make red blood cells that transport oxygen throughout your body, and 10 percent of the calcium you need each day to keep your bones strong. Because they're made with white flour, white tortillas don't have any fiber or iron.
